Elise’s Story

In the beginning, my mentee and I did not click. She rarely talked to me, and didn’t want to do Bible study with me or pray afterwards. It didn’t feel like a match between the two of us. Our relationship changed for the better on the first day of the second semester. We started talking more about life, family and school. She started engaging more in Bible study and asking questions. My favorite question she has asked me was, “What does it mean to have faith?” after reading the story about Jesus walking on water and Peter following after him.  

As I reflect on my relationship with her, I was able to see my relationship with my Lord and Savior. Jesus was always calling me, but I ignored Him, and rebelled. I was uninterested in church. Then one day, just like my relationship with my mentee, everything changed and I sought after my Savior like never before and desired a relationship with Him. It has been the sweetest relationship, just like my relationship with my mentee.
