Mentoring

What Do Mentors Do?

  • Meet weekly at the STEP Mentoring Center in North Little Rock or Little Rock.
  • Provide a one-on-one, loving and consistent presence.
  • Serve as a positive spiritual influence through Bible Study.
  • Help mentees develop life skills and transition into adulthood.
  • Provide memorable outings that mentees wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to experience.
  • Can mentor in the summer or during the school year.

Encouraging

What Do Encouragers Do?

  • Meet weekly at the partner school.
  • Provide a one-on-one, loving and consistent presence.
  • Read with mentees and provide social and emotional support during the school year.

Tutoring

What Do Tutors Do?

  • Meet once or twice weekly at the NLR STEP Mentoring Center.
  • Provide a one-on-one, loving and consistent presence.
  • Help students who struggle in reading and math.
  • Can tutor during the summer (through the Summer Literacy Camp) and during the school year

Short-term Volunteer Roles

Youth Dinner

–-Group or individual opportunity: easy
Provide and or/serve child-friendly dinner to between 20-35 elementary, middle school, or high school aged children before their evening mentoring club, anytime Monday – Thursday. (Get more info or sign up to provide dinner here)

Christmas Store

–Group or individual opportunity
Donate toys for school-aged children and/or serve during this morning event in mid-December at STEP. Parents experiencing poverty are able to buy Christmas presents at a deep discount while maintaining their dignity of being a parent that provides.

Grounds Project

STEP NLR: Update paint/etc in our youth bathrooms, update entrance flooring, etc

Neighborhood Event for Families

–Group opportunity: significant
Partner with STEP to host an outside event with food, games, family photos, and spiritual engagement opportunities for parents and children from our partner neighborhood.

STEP Summer Literacy Camp – Summer Short Term 1:1 Tutoring Opportunity at STEP

–1 or 2 week commitment, 5 mornings in August
